Protests Surround Swearing-In Of New Hong Kong Leader

China's top dog calls upon Hong Kong's newly sworn-in leader to move to resolve divisions within the former British colony's society surrounding recent government scandals and political tensions on day of annual July 1 protest.

Chinese President Hu Jintao swore in Leung Chung-ying for a five-year term surrounded by hundreds of police there to keep protesters at a safe distance from the proceedings.

Said Hu, according to Reuters: "While we recognize Hong Kong's achievements 15 years after the handover, we must also be conscious of the deep disagreements and problems in Hong Kong society."

Yelled Hong Kong lawmaker Lee Cheuk-yan at police standing in his way: "Hong Kong has freedoms, and we have a right to protest! Why do you even stop us from walking?"

Later, more than 100,000 Hong Kong residents flooded the streets for an annual July 1 demonstration, calling for full democracy by 2017.
